Statproof
What is statproof?
Statproof is a proofing tool that can be used to check for spelling, grammar and semantic mistakes.
It highlights a text in red, guiding the proofreader to the places where an error may have occured.
Technology
Statproof is different from ordinary grammar checkers since it uses a statistical category-based language model rather than grammar rules. A category based language model groups words into categories based on their semantic similarity, and then records statistics about the likely sequences of words in these categories from corpora of example texts.
By using 500 categories, Statproof can pool the data of all of the words in a category. Since it deals with 500 categories rather than 200,000 words, Statproof only requires 10MB to store its language model.
Licence
Statproof is free to use via this website. If Statproof becomes popular I will improve it and charge for the service.
This first version was released in February 2008.
Author
Statproof was developed by Dr Bryan McEleney.
